Easter break - Term review

Finally it's time for a little break. This term I have worked really really hard to get everything done. It was a busy time and I didn't really have time to relax or anything. But the result wasn't too bad. I'm not 100% happy with my score, but I've tried hard and I am going to try harder next term anyway. Now it's time for a relaxing time before a new term with all the work. I'm excited thinking about the placements as well! Summer time!

Toile review

We've done our toile review today. I got some very helpful feedback from the tutors; And it means I would have to change a lot as well.

  • The bodice needs to be a bit wider
  • The dress needs to be longer
  • 2 layers are going to be satin on satin instead of lace over satin
  • Roses are going to be silver, not red
The dress is meant to look puffy and big. However, as long as it begins right below the bust, it make the model looks a bit pregnant. So I'm thinking about sorting that out as well.

Lectra Feedback

Again, I'm not happy with the result I got. I'm so not good with computers.

Internships

A week of applying and I got 2 internships to do this summer. Not bad at all! First I'm going to Copenhagen to work for Simon Rasmussen. He's a Danish stylist. I will basically be his assistant and help him with his fashion show this summer as well. I've never seen a stylist having their own fashion show before, so this is going to be exciting! I really like Simon's work. I think he's talented and working for him will be a nice experience to have. It's going to be a lot of work to do in order to get to Denmark, but I can handle it (Hopefully!).

After Denmark, I'm going to Malaysia to work for Blush!. It's a lingerie outlet of DKNY, Maidenform and Princesse Tam Tam in Asia. I will be working directly under the Managing Director in their Merchandise Department. Sounds good.

Shan Shan

Shan Shan's a Chinese girl living in Japan. She is known through her Lookbook. I really like her way of putting things together. She looks effortless and maybe a bit random, but it's not random. It's hard to imagine that she's 30 and is already married!

The toiling is still going on. It's a bit frustrating to be honest. Making something that is tight-fitted is not easy at all. I did it, got it wrong, unpicked, did it again, got it wrong, unpicked, did it again, still wrong, more unpicking... Oh dear....

Design chosen

I've been working on the project for a while, and today the design I'm going to make is chosen.
It's the one with the roses all over the front. I'm excited! Can't wait to see it in reality.

Jersey done!

Finally I have finished my jersey. It was not difficult to do. However, for some reasons I got the neck cuff wrong. I unpicked it, did it again, got it wrong again. Unpicked again, did it again, finally got it right! My mom is an architect but she does sew as well. She told me so many times that sewing means techniques and being patient. I nearly lost mine when I got it wrong the second time. But I did it. I'm proud of myself.

Vietnamese New Year

Today is Vietnamese New Year's day. It's the biggest occasion of the year. New Year is the time when people celebrate a new spring and spend some family time together. In my country, during New Year, people wear colourful clothes, normally a lot of red for luck. However, this year, we wear less red, still colourful clothes but a bit more neutral compared to the previous years.

Jersey workshop

We have done patterns of a basic jersey on Lectra now ready to be printed out. I'm excited. I want to be able to work with jersey. The tutors said that sewing machines won't be used. Only overlockers. Cool.

By the way, R.I.P Alexander McQueen...

Started making a dress

It might not be my toile. It's too early to be sure about it now. I'm just playing around as I like this design. Not bad, is it?

FDP Feedback day

Really not happy about my result.

Smiling models

As a customer, I find that fashion photos with models either smiling or dancing or whatever make them look like they are having fun, make people want to buy the clothes more, compared to photos that models look cold, serious or something like that. I can't deny that photos with models looking cold are very beautiful, but somehow "happy" photos just make me feel happy too and want to buy the clothes. Maybe by seeing "happy" photos, customers are told "Buy these clothes, you will be happy like us!" without knowing it.

Factory girl

Just watched it tonight. I've heard about it for a long time but this is the first time I've watch it. It's a great movie actually. I'm researching about Andy Warhol for my project, and watching a bit of his life on movie gave me a different experience than just reading.

I really like Edie (by Sienna Miller), not only because of her personality but also her style, her clothes and yes, her makeup. She really inspired me. I'm going to sketch some rough designs now.

By the way, Hayden Christensen is so hot.

My PCCP result was not bad. I'm happy with it but really hope I will get much better in time.

Dazed & Confused Magazine - February issue

Crazy dresses. Not realistic but awfully creative and inspiring.

Manifesto is going ok. I'm doing some research about Pop Art and Feminism. Simple, nice colours from Pop Art combined with nice shape of body curves and light, soft materials equal strongly expressive, elegant, sexy clothes.

Tokyo Lash Bar! BAM!!

This is one of the reasons why I absolutely love Japanese fashion. It's just too amazing.
